Singapore Quantum Giants Forge Alliance: SpeQtral and Addvalue to Launch Integrated Satellite QKD Solutions

SpeQtral and Addvalue IDRS

In February 2026, Singaporean businesses SpeQtral and Addvalue formed a formal partnership to build integrated quantum-secure satellite services. This alliance proposes to blend quantum key distribution (QKD) technology with real-time data relay technologies to enable continuous, high-security communications. By exploiting Addvalue’s IDRS connection, the cooperation intends to eliminate the customary delays associated with ground station scheduling for low-earth orbit missions. This effort supports Singapore’s national space policy by supporting home-grown innovation and preparing global networks for future cryptography problems. Ultimately, the joint company aspires to translate experimental quantum communications into dependable, commercially available security solutions for the worldwide space economy.

In a groundbreaking step for the worldwide telecommunications and space industries, SpeQtral Pte. Ltd. and Addvalue Innovation Pte. Ltd. have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pioneer an integrated quantum key distribution (QKD) satellite system. The agreement, ratified at the Space Summit 2026, signifies a huge stride forward in Singapore’s aim to deliver quantum-secure, robust communications for next-generation networks.

The signing ceremony was attended by Addvalue’s CEO, Tan Khai Pang, and SpeQtral’s Co-founder and CEO, Lum Chune Yang. The relationship was seen by Mr Jonathan Hung, the Executive Director at the Office for Space Technology & Industry (OSTIn), emphasizing the strategic national relevance of this collaboration.

Bridging the Gap Between Demonstration and Service

The fundamental purpose of this alliance is to move space-based quantum technologies from experimental demonstrations into viable, commercial-grade services. While SpeQtral supplies the quantum knowledge, Addvalue adds its InterSatellite Data Relay System (IDRS), a Singapore-developed real-time relay capability.

Under the provisions of the MoU, the two businesses will collaboratively examine Quantum Communication satellite constellation architecture and Concept of Operations (CONOPs). This study intends to produce service-oriented QKD solutions that match real-world operational needs, especially the capacity to handle real-time tasking and quick key setup requests.

The CEO of SpeQtral, Lum Chune Yang, emphasized that the “classical” aspect of connectedness is equally important as the quantum aspect. “Space-based QKD must be paired with reliable, real-time classical connectivity to translate demonstrations into services,” said Lum. By integrating with Addvalue’s IDRS, SpeQtral can better manage QKD passes, post-processing, and key delivery for prospective clients.

IDRS and SpeQtre’s Power

The alliance builds on the proven competencies of both institutions. By relaying data via GEO (Geostationary) connections, Addvalue’s innovative IDRS enables Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to retain on-demand, round-the-clock communication. First commercialised in November 2020 through a cooperation with Inmarsat (now Viasat), IDRS delivers continuous IP sessions with data speeds surpassing 200 kbps.

For quantum communications, this “always-on” connection is a game-changer. It greatly decreases operating delay compared to traditional ground station scheduling, which typically needs satellites to wait until they are over a certain ground station to receive instructions. This makes IDRS a great choice for time-sensitive operations such as QKD service optimization and orchestration.

SpeQtral brings its own considerable “space heritage” to the table. In November 2025, the business launched the SpeQtre mission in conjunction with RAL Space. The SpeQtre project, which is presently undergoing commissioning, uses a 12U CubeSat to demonstrate space-to-ground quantum communications, positioning Singapore as a major participant in the world’s quantum-secure networking scene.

Strategic Significance for Singapore and Other Regions

The partnership corresponds with a greater worldwide drive to operationalize satellite-based QKD as the “quantum revolution” nears. As future quantum computers challenge present cryptography standards, SpeQtral’s mission is to construct global quantum networks that secure sovereign and business telecommunications against both conventional and future quantum-based cyber-attacks.

With the space economy expected to reach US$1.8 trillion by 2035, Singapore is setting itself up to take a sizable chunk of this market. The SpeQtral-Addvalue relationship guarantees that Singapore-developed technologies are at the forefront of this transition by emphasizing operational availability and service readiness.

Furthermore, local quantum-safe deployment attempts are projected to generate downstream demand for QKD keys given from space, which must interface smoothly with terrestrial fibre-based QKD infrastructure. This alliance supports Singapore’s national policy to fortify its space sector and promote international cooperation by tackling the “satellite service layer” and improving resilience through IDRS.

Looking Ahead: The Future Quantum Internet

As the two businesses investigate combined go-to-market methods, the ultimate aim remains the construction of the future quantum internet. Tan Khai Pang, CEO of Addvalue, highlighted that LEO operations increasingly require fleetwide coordination and on-demand connections. With IDRS providing 24/7 relay and secure IP continuity, we see strong potential to underpin quantum secure services and accelerate commissioning and operations for QKD satellites, Tan stated.

By merging terrestrial and space-based technologies, SpeQtral and Addvalue are not simply launching satellites; they are establishing the essential building blocks for a secure global communication network that can weather the technological upheavals of the future decade.
