Colin Sullivan Appointed Managing Director of Infleqtion UK

Colin Sullivan MBE, a former RAF deputy force commander, has been appointed managing director, strengthening UK leadership.

Infleqtion, a world leader in neutral atom-based quantum technology, has announced the hiring of Colin Sullivan MBE as Managing Director for its UK operations, marking a significant development for the British quantum environment. Sullivan, who takes over the position immediately, is responsible for leading the organization’s effort to translate quantum research into practical, deployable capabilities for the commercial, defense, and security industries. Following the corporation’s September 2025 announcement of plans to go public through a business combination with Churchill Capital Corp X, a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC), this appointment coincides with a moment of significant change for the business.

An Effective Leader for the Quantum Future

With decades of front-line military experience and senior leadership experience from both the public and commercial sectors, Colin Sullivan’s hiring is seen as a significant talent acquisition. He held high-profile roles in the Royal Air Force (RAF) over his career, such as Deputy Force Commander and Chief Operations Officer. He also held the position of Senior Military Advisor to the UK’s defense research project, which gave him a unique viewpoint on how national security and developing technology interact.

Colin Sullivan has a track record of success in the international aerospace and defense sector outside of his military service. Before his most recent position as HENSOLDT UK’s UK Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Government Affairs, he held top leadership positions at Lockheed Martin UK and Boeing Defense UK. He continues to serve as the UK’s National Air and Space Delegate to the NATO Industry Advisory Group (NIAG), where he provides business insight into the strategic priorities of allied defense capabilities. His academic credentials, which include a master’s degree in international relations from King’s College London and a Royal College of Defense Studies degree, further establish his reputation as a major player in strategy.

Increasing the Quantum Footprint of the UK

Infleqtion’s dedication to the UK’s national quantum ecosystem is evident in the hire of Colin Sullivan. The business is already actively involved in regional projects, collaborating with industry and governmental partners to provide quantum sensing and computing capabilities.

The fact that Infleqtion was chosen to speed up the SQALE neutral-atom platform’s performance at the National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) is a major highlight of its recent UK operations. In order to achieve fault-tolerant quantum computing, our partnership with top UK institutions seeks to enhance gate execution rates by 10x to 100x.

Infleqtion has been actively testing its Tiqker optical-clock technology in the field of sensing. Notably, the business tested the efficacy of robust, GPS-free navigation on an autonomous maritime platform through Royal Navy sea trials. In order to operate in “GPS-denied” conditions and maintain national security and resilience, such technology is essential.

A Comprehensive Suite of Quantum Solutions

A wide range of products intended for operational deployment will be under Colin Sullivan’s supervision. The foundation of Infleqtion’s technology stack is neutral-atom technology, which makes use of “nature’s perfect qubits” to enable high-performance computation and sensing. The range of products consists of:

  • Quantum computing: Including the full-stack, fault-tolerant neutral atom system known as the SQALE platform.
  • Sensing and clocks: Inertial sensing for accurate locating without GPS and the Tiqker Atomic Clock for crucial applications.
  • Quantum RF Receivers: By utilizing Rydberg atomic sensing, they are transforming spectrum sensing.
  • Software: The Superstaq software platform, designed to speed up quantum applications’ time to value.

Not only are these systems theoretical, but the U.S. Department of War, NASA, and the U.K. government now use them, and the company has several partnerships with NVIDIA.

Encouraging Innovation in Various Industries

Although security and defense are the main priorities, Infleqtion’s products are used in a variety of commercial and scientific domains. The UK branch, led by Colin Sullivan, will keep looking into applications in:

  • Energy and Resource Exploration: Applying quantum optimization to make more intelligent grid management and sustainable choices.
  • Drug discovery and life sciences: facilitating precision medicine and speeding up disease research.
  • Materials Science: Using quantum-powered simulation of effective materials, R&D durations can be shortened from decades to months.
  • Finance: Improving portfolio management through quicker decision-making and more insightful analysis.
  • AI and machine learning: Contextual machine learning opens up real-time insights.

How to Get to Public Markets

This hiring takes place against the business backdrop of Infleqtion’s impending merger with Churchill Capital Corp X. This merger will enable Infleqtion to become a publicly traded company. Churchill X is a “blank check” firm created to encourage commercial pairings. This action provides the funding required to expand operations and satisfy the increasing demand for quantum solutions around the world.

Infleqtion CEO Matt Kinsella says the UK is constructing one of the world’s most ambitious quantum programs. Sullivan said the UK is a “global center of excellence.” He wants to combine technology and operational deployment.

Colin Sullivan essentially serves as Infleqtion’s UK navigator, making sure that the intricate, highly promising “vessel” of quantum technology makes its way from the lab to the challenging waters of practical applications.
