Leading Australian space exploration firm Fleet Space has announced a number of strategic partnerships with cutting-edge tech companies DeteQt, Nomad Atomics, and mDetect. By creating and incorporating cutting-edge quantum and muon-based sensors into Fleet Space’s flagship ExoSphere platform, these partnerships have the potential to completely transform the worldwide mining sector. AI-powered mineral prospecting on Earth and, crucially, in space will be greatly improved by the project.

The collaborations aim to speed up the collection and processing of geophysical data. In order to improve the geological predictions of contemporary AI systems and enable quicker, more accurate, and less intrusive subsurface imaging, Fleet Space aims to create an innovation path for cutting-edge sensing modalities such as muon tomography, quantum gravimetry, and chip-scale magnetometers. Fleet Space works to create exploration technology for its vertically integrated ExoSphere platform. The company will work with innovative tech companies and top academic institutions like MIT’s Space Exploration Initiative and Stanford’s Mineral-X to improve mineral value chain efficiency, speed, and precision.

Addressing Urgent Global Demand

Material inputs, which are necessary for the development of innovative technologies and the shift to renewable energy, are in high demand worldwide. The mining industry is reorganising its exploration toolset to improve agility and discovery time. This novel toolkit enables fast, non-invasive, data-driven exploration at scale using artificial intelligence, satellites, and real-time multiphysics ground sensors.

The revolutionary potential of Fleet Space’s ExoSphere platform has already been shown. ExoSphere has been effectively used by major mining companies such as Rio Tinto, Barrick, BHP, and Gold Fields to speed up exploration and uncover vital geological insights in important projects across the globe. Additionally, a multi-year contract has been signed by Saudi state miner Ma’aden to deploy ExoSphere over a massive 12,000 square kilometres of the Arabian Shield. In order to expand Saudi Arabia’s remarkable $2.5 trillion mineral asset portfolio, this deployment combines Fleet Space’s AI-enabled drill targeting with 3D subsurface imaging data, which can reach depths of up to 7 kilometres.

“Build the deep technologies and infrastructure that integrate breakthrough sensing modalities into a unified system if the global mining industry is to realise its potential as an industry leader in exploration data-intelligence,” said Flavia Tata Nardini, CEO and co-founder of Fleet Space, underscoring the strategic significance of this development. “The current investment in cutting-edge technologies like quantum gravimetry and muon tomography is crucial to enhance the predictive power of AI in exploration on a planetary scale,” she continued, adding that ExoSphere has produced the next generation of satellite-connected geophysical methodologies.

Pioneering Technologies from Key Partners

The collaborations with mDetect, Nomad Atomics, and DeteQt mark a substantial advancement in Australian-led cutting-edge technology, establishing sovereign capacities to improve the robustness of the mineral supply chain. These partnerships give mining corporations access to artificial intelligence and more environmentally friendly, low-impact space-enabled exploration technology.

The distinct skills of each partner and how they are integrated into ExoSphere are broken out as follows:

  • mDetect: Muon Tomography for Deep Insights
    • Muon tomography, a passive imaging method that uses naturally occurring space particles called muons to produce three-dimensional density maps of the subsurface, is mDetect’s area of expertise.
    • This special ability offers deep, high-resolution data that has potential uses in drill targeting and mineral prospecting.
    • By enabling exploration teams to “see through” difficult geology and substantial overburden, muon tomography enhances AI’s capacity to model deep-seated mineral systems without requiring extensive drilling or ground disturbance, and it complements shallower geophysical techniques.
  • Nomad Atomics: Quantum Gravimetry for Ultra-Fine Resolution
    • Nomad Atomics is in the forefront of creating high-precision quantum accelerometers and gravimeters.
    • Their technique provides drift-free, stable, and sensitive measurements by utilising atomic physics.
    • This quantum-level accuracy will produce ultra-fine resolution gravity data, which will greatly enhance Fleet Space’s AI’s prediction outputs and feed data-driven exploration strategies. It makes it possible to detect density contrasts with extreme accuracy and precision, which is a useful input for AI analysis of ore bodies and governing structures. Importantly, by eliminating the need for drift corrections and a base station, these devices are able to produce precise absolute gravity maps in real-time, enabling dynamic array changes on the fly.
  • DeteQt: Quantum Magnetometers for Minimally Invasive Surveys
    • DeteQt’s revolutionary “diamond-on-chip” quantum magnetometers are transforming the field.
    • These sensors are extremely accurate at detecting vector magnetic fields and are incredibly sensitive and portable.
    • When combined with Fleet Space’s low-impact, real-time magnetotelluric solution, these small deviceswhich are made for scalable production and widespread field deployment may make it possible to create 3D subsurface conductivity models with little digging or ground disturbance.

Unprecedented 3D Subsurface Imaging

The advantages of integration were emphasised by Dr. Gerrit Olivier, Chief Scientist of Fleet Space: “They bringing laboratory-grade precision into a handheld package by partnering with global leaders in quantum gravimetry and magnetometry.” Crews can gather higher-fidelity gravity and magnetic data with fewer stations, lighter logistics, and much easier CONOPS [concept of operations] because to these sensors’ exceptional precision and stability in the field. “We get an unprecedented 3D picture of the subsurface, from regional reconnaissance right down to drill-ready targets, when fuse these quantum measurements with passive muon tomography, seismic imaging, and conventional gravity data inside our joint-inversion framework,” he continued.

Expanding Horizons: Off-Planet Prospecting

Fleet Space’s aspirations go beyond Earth. Dr. Olivier affirmed that “off-planet prospecting” is another area in which this cutting-edge toolbox is being prepared. Future asteroid-scout missions are expected to use muon detectors and compact quantum sensors. This will make it possible for humans to map previously unreachable inner structures and resource potential of metal-rich celestial bodies. Dr. Olivier stated, “Whether on Earth or in deep space, the combination of high-fidelity physics and continuously learning AI is redefining how quickly and sustainably it can locate the critical minerals that power the global energy transition,”.

These new collaborations expand on Fleet Space’s recent successes, which include the launch of the company’s next-generation Centauri satellites, the successful completion of a USD$100 million Series D funding round, and the acquisition of HiSeis, a top supplier of active seismic solutions for hard rock mineral exploration. In the near future, Fleet Space intends to send SPIDER, a lunar pathfinder of their ExoSphere technology, to the moon in late 2026. In order to support upcoming space exploration initiatives, this mission seeks to provide a greater scientific understanding of the lunar subsurface.
