IBM Quantum Education

With the release of an extensive open-access library on a new platform, IBM Quantum Learning strengthens its dedication to global quantum education.

In keeping with its mission to democratize quantum education, IBM Quantum has announced that IBM Quantum Learning has finished the first stage of its transition to the new IBM Quantum Platform, which is now housed on IBM Cloud. This calculated action not only marks a significant improvement in the way that instructional materials are presented, but it also reinforces IBM’s long-standing commitment to the quantum community and making quantum education accessible to all.

Open quantum education has been led by IBM since the corporation first made a quantum computer available on the cloud in 2016. As the world moves closer to the era of quantum advantage, IBM is now going one step further by granting the worldwide quantum community full access to its complete learning library. In order to promote universal quantum literacy and skill development, the writers Olivia Lanes, Borja Peropadre, Abby Mitchell, and Robert Davis emphasize this as a critical first step.

The switch to the new IBM Quantum Platform brings with it a simplified and user-friendly learning environment that makes finding, accessing, and interacting with content simpler than ever. The goal of this new interface is to improve user engagement with IBM Quantum’s most sophisticated features. On July 1, the whole IBM Quantum Platform, including IBM Quantum Learning, was centralized at IBM Quantum Platform as part of this extensive infrastructure overhaul, which also marked the official sunset of the original IBM Quantum Platform.

A key component of this growth is the expanding collection of tutorials and courses that Open Plan users can access to help establish fundamental knowledge. One new available course is Quantum Diagonalization Algorithms (QDA). To unlock quantum advantage in near-term technology, this course explores powerful techniques such as sample-based diagonalization and sample-based Krylov subspace algorithms. IBM’s goal for users to accomplish the first actual demonstrations of quantum advantage on IBM technology is emphasized by this emphasis on real-world applications.

IBM Quantum has introduced Qiskit classroom modules and added more open-access courses and tutorials to its collection. Without needing teachers to create whole curriculum from scratch, this cutting-edge, educator-focused resource is modular and made to easily incorporate quantum computing into already-existing classroom structures. Every module is a standalone Jupyter notebook that gives students a practical way to investigate basic computer science and quantum physics concepts using Qiskit.

Usually taking one to two hours to finish, these flexible modules provide a wealth of learning opportunities, such as:

  • Explicit explanations of the main ideas
  • Examples and practical exercises of Qiskit code
  • Video lectures and check-in questions are optional.
  • Seamless incorporation into the current educational frameworks

As quantum technology advances quickly, IBM is dedicated to helping consumers stay up to date. It is observed that some of the most sophisticated features and capabilities demand a substantial amount of Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) time, even though the new courses and content made available to Open Plan users can help them develop a solid understanding. Hands-on access to IBM’s latest-generation systems and extensive experimentation will be most beneficial to users on the Premium Plan, Flex Plan, Pay-As-You-Go Plan, or Dedicated Service Plan.

To advance large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing, IBM has long provided top-notch instructional materials at no cost to its clients, partners, and users. It is anticipated that these individuals will accomplish the first practical demonstrations of quantum advantage on IBM hardware.

IBM Quantum Composer, the majority of the main learning courses and tutorials, and a new feedback mechanism for content recommendations and issue reporting via GitHub are currently all fully accessible on the new platform.

The IBM Quantum education team is planning for the rest of 2025 and beyond with big objectives. In addition to additional lessons, courses, and video content, users may expect the reintroduction of features like event replays from webinars and significant conferences, such as the annual Quantum Developer Conference, later this year. The quantum education team is still committed to making sure quantum education is available, high-quality, and open to everyone.

To take the next step into the quantum future, IBM invites those who are just starting out in quantum computing to visit IBM Quantum Learning. The 5th annual Qiskit Global Summer School, which will take place over the next two weeks, is timed to coincide with this news, offering prospective students yet another fantastic chance to get involved with the subject. In order to enable a global community to attain quantum advantage, IBM is working to advance towards the era of large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing.
