Quantum Computing IIT Roorkee Advanced Certification in 2025

In response to growing global demand for technology, IIT Roorkee unveils an advanced quantum computing and artificial intelligence certificate.

Quantum Computing IIT Roorkee

The Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML is a new professional endeavor that the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has formally announced. The institute’s Continuing Education Center (CEC) offers this 6.5-month program, which is intended to prepare technical professionals for a fast-changing field where artificial intelligence and quantum mechanics collide. The objective of this course is to close the crucial gap between theoretical physics and real-world commercial applications as sectors like finance, healthcare, and encryption start using quantum technologies.

A Growing Multi-Billion Dollar Market

This program’s inauguration coincides with a critical juncture in the global technology industry. The market for quantum computing is expected to grow from its estimated USD 1.42 billion in 2024 to USD 4.24 billion by 2030. This amounts to a 20.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).

The main drivers of this economic boom are quantum communication, sensing, and computation, according to industry reports from big companies like McKinsey and BCG. The program’s necessity was underlined by Professor Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator of the CEC at IIT Roorkee, who said that it “bridges theory and deployment” to equip engineers and researchers to turn quantum prototypes into production-grade pilots.

Comprehensive Curriculum and “Quantum Intelligence”

A comprehensive understanding of the quantum field is offered by the program’s five main modules:

  • Foundations of Quantum Computing: Quantum mechanics, postulates, qubits, qudits, and the No-Cloning Theorem are all covered in the Foundations of Quantum Computing.
  • Quantum Algorithms and Software: Students will work directly with industry-standard algorithms such as Simon’s, Grover’s, Deutsch-Jozsa, and Shor’s.
  • Quantum Communications and Networks: This topic covers the safe transmission of data via cryptography, quantum teleportation, and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) protocols.
  • Quantum Machine Learning (QML): Investigating how quantum data and artificial intelligence (AI) may function together, notably using Quantum Support Vector Machines (QSVMs) and Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs), is known as Quantum Machine Learning (QML).
  • QML Applications: Participants will use their knowledge in practical situations, such as addressing the Max-Cut issue, binary classification on wine datasets, and molecular ground state estimation.

Hands-On Training with Industry-Leading Tools

The IIT Roorkee curriculum is notable for emphasizing real-world application above abstract concepts. In addition to learning the mathematics underlying quantum gates, participants will be able to develop, simulate, and benchmark sophisticated algorithms on actual hardware and platforms.

Students will become proficient in a number of high-level software frameworks, such as PennyLane and Qiskit. Additionally, the curriculum gives students access to D-Wave gear and IBM’s Quantum Systems to simulate algorithms, guaranteeing that graduates are knowledgeable about the technologies presently driving tomorrow’s breakthroughs.

Distinguished Faculty and Academic Rigor

Experts from IIT Roorkee’s Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering are in charge of the program. Dr. Sandeep Kumar Singh, the program director, is an expert in quantum networking and the use of artificial intelligence in communication networks. Dr. Anshul Jaiswal, whose work focuses on optical wireless communication and MIMO systems, and Dr. Vishvendra Singh Poonia, a specialist in quantum biology and random number generators, accompany him.

The program upholds stringent certification requirements to guarantee academic quality. In order to obtain a “Certificate of Successful Completion,” applicants must maintain a minimum attendance of 50% and earn at least 50% of the possible points. A “Certificate of Participation” will be given to those who fulfil the attendance requirement but do not meet the scoring criteria.

Career Paths and Future Outlook

Graduates of the program are prepared to pursue a wide range of in-demand positions in a number of industries, such as drug research, healthcare, finance, and optimization. Among the possible job pathways are:

• Quantum Software Developer

• Quantum Machine Learning Engineer

• Quantum Security Analyst/Cryptographer

• Quantum Algorithm Researcher

• Quantum AI Product Developer

Program Schedule and Investment

The start of the following cohort is set for January 31, 2026. The classes, which are intended for working professionals, will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM (IST). With live sessions, recorded material, and project work, the overall learning commitment approaches 310 hours.

₹1,59,000 + GST is the program fee. A bachelor’s degree in technology, engineering, or the sciences and a solid background in mathematics are prerequisites for eligibility. For networking and peer education, the program also provides an optional one-day campus immersion visit to IIT Roorkee.

Analogy for Understanding: To understand the leap from classical to quantum computing, imagine a classical computer is like a librarian who can only search for a book by checking every single shelf one by one. A quantum computer is like a team of librarians who can scan every shelf in the entire building simultaneously, finding the correct information in a fraction of the time. This program teaches professionals how to manage that “team” to solve problems previously thought impossible.
