Rigetti Announces Launch Of Ankaa 3 Quantum Computer

Launching the 84-Qubit Ankaa 3 System, Rigetti Computing Reaches a Milestone of 99.5% Median Two-Qubit Gate Fidelity. Rigetti leads the market with its new hardware overhaul that improves performance, scalability, and authenticity.

Features

Improved Qubit Integrity

With a median two-qubit gate integrity of 99.5%, Ankaa 3 significantly reduces error rates by half when compared to earlier systems. In particular, it has a median fidelity of 99.5% for fSim gates and 99.0% for iSWAP gates, both of which are essential for intricate quantum algorithms such as random circuit sampling.

    Cutting-Edge Cryogenic Architecture

The device uses a unique cryogenic hardware design that lowers the metal content at the coldest point of the refrigerator. The total performance of the system is improved by this improvement, which also lowers the cost per qubit and enhances thermal management and magnetic/environmental shielding.

      A Better Qubit Chip

Rigetti has increased coherence by redesigning its qubit device. A new metal deposition technique for qubit circuitry was implemented in partnership with the Fermilab-led Superconducting Quantum Materials & Systems Centre (SQMS), which produced a higher T₁ baseline and longer qubit lifetimes. In order to reduce qubit losses, the circuit layout was also optimised.

        The Josephson Junctions ABAA Technique

Josephson junctions made with Rigetti’s innovative Alternating-Bias Assisted Annealing (ABAA) process are a characteristic of the Ankaa 3 chip. By precisely targeting the qubit frequency, this technique improves the performance of two-qubit gates and boosts yield, both of which increase fidelity.

          Architecture that is Scalable

Rigetti’s scalable chip design with 3D signal transmission is still present in Ankaa-3. Larger quantum systems can be developed more easily because to this design’s support for the integration of several qubit devices. In order to achieve a twofold decrease in error rates, Rigetti intends to release a system with more than 100 qubits by the end of 2025 and a 36-qubit system built on four 9-qubit chips tiled together by the middle of 2025.

            The Significance of Ankaa 3

            It Makes Fewer Mistakes:

            • Compared to prior systems, Ankaa 3 is far more accurate.
            • It performs quantum computations with fewer errors, which is crucial for resolving challenging issues.

It Assists Us in Resolving More Serious Issues:

            • It can manage more complicated jobs because of its greater power (84 qubits).
            • Artificial intelligence, finance, climate research, and medicine can all benefit from this.

            It’s a Significant Step Forward:

            • The goal of scientists is to create computers that surpass the supercomputers of today.
            • We are getting closer to that objective, known as quantum advantage, with Ankaa-3.

            It’s Constructed Smarter:

            • The design is easier to expand in the future and is more efficient.
            • It’s similar to assembling Lego pieces that can be joined to create a much larger object.

It Conserves Energy and Remains Cooler:

            • Ankaa 3 is less expensive to operate because of its superior cooling systems.
            • This is significant since the operation of quantum computers requires extremely low temperatures.

It Can Be Used by More People:

            • Ankaa-3 can be used without a quantum computer.
            • Researchers and businesses worldwide can utilise it because it is accessible online (via cloud systems like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Braket).

It Makes Use of Improved Technology:

            • Rigetti constructed the main components of the system using a novel technique.
            • This increases the machine’s dependability and facilitates future construction.

            It’s A Component of a Greater Scheme:

            • Rigetti aspires to create even more advanced and expansive systems.
            • Starting with Ankaa 3, they intend to create systems with more than 100 qubits in the near future.

            To put it briefly:

            • Ankaa-3 is more precise, quicker, and smarter.
            • It enables researchers and developers to use quantum computers more effectively.

It’s a significant step towards the goal of having extremely strong computers that can solve problems in the real world.

            Availability and Prospects

Currently, partners can access Ankaa-3 through the Rigetti Quantum Cloud Services (QCS) platform. In the first quarter of 2025, it is also expected to be accessible on Microsoft Azure and Amazon Braket, increasing its reach among researchers and developers globally.

Rigetti has no debt and around $225 million in cash, cash equivalents, and available-for-sale investments, which puts it in a strong position to keep making strides in quantum computing. In order to eventually achieve fault-tolerant quantum computing, the organisation is still dedicated to improving system speed and scalability.

            In conclusion

In the quest for scalable and useful quantum computing, Rigetti’s introduction of the 84-qubit Ankaa 3 system marks an important turning point. With significant gains in qubit fidelity, creative hardware design, and a well-defined development plan, Rigetti keeps securing its leadership position in the quantum computing sector.
