SEALSQ Quantum Highway Platform for Post-Quantum Security

Quantum Highway

The Quantum Highway, a cutting-edge platform created by SEALSQ Corp., integrates trust directly into semiconductor technology to offer end-to-end security. By connecting international technology centers, this project makes sure that cryptographic identity and sovereignty are fundamental components rather than add-ons. The business is combining post-quantum cryptography with custom chip design through several strategic acquisitions and global alliances to defend against potential computer threats.

Their vertically integrated architecture ensures data resilience in both classical and quantum settings, spanning several industries such as automotive, medical, and aerospace. The company hopes to create a robust and independent infrastructure for vital industries across the globe by firmly establishing security in physical silicon. With this thorough plan, the business is positioned to lead the way in protecting digital identities from the changing threats of the quantum era.

A Novel Approach: Have Faith in Silicon

The technology sector has been creating quantum solutions in separate “silos” for years, keeping networking, software, and hardware apart. The novel approach from SEALSQ challenges this status quo by presenting a fully integrated architecture in which cryptographic identity and sovereignty are inherent features of the hardware from the moment of production rather than being added on as an afterthought.

A hardware root key, firmly fixed in safe silicon, is the basis of this platform. Every phase of a component’s lifecycle is governed by the unchangeable device identification established by this root key. In classical, post-quantum, and quantum contexts, the Quantum Highway guarantees end-to-end trust continuity from the first manufacturing and personalization to authentication, operation, and decommissioning.

From European Corridor to Global Highway

The Quantum Highway wasn’t created overnight. It started off as the Quantum Corridor, a trial project that effectively connected key locations in France, Switzerland, and Spain. To show that safe, international cooperation in post-quantum technologies might function inside a single, hardware-based framework, this proof-of-concept was essential.

The program quickly grew when the pilot proved successful. The corridor is currently a globally scalable, sovereign-by-design interconnection architecture, with active developments and partnerships extending into the United States, South Korea, India, and the United Arab Emirates.

Strategic Purchases and International Growth

A key component of SEALSQ’s approach is an aggressive acquisition and investment strategy aimed at coordinating the development of quantum processors with a secure semiconductor roadmap. The company is facilitating deep technology integration and coordinated R&D by going beyond simple financial engagement. This ecosystem’s essential elements include:

  • IC’ALPS SAS (France): A 100% purchase with the goal of enhancing ASIC and custom chip design for the automotive, medical, and Internet of Things industries.
  • Quantix EdgeS JV (Spain): The Spanish government and WISeKey International Holding Ltd., the parent company of SEALSQ, have invested €40 million in post-quantum RISC-V chip design.
  • EeroQ (USA): A key component of the “Quantum Made in USA” campaign, this investment is in scalable electron-on-helium quantum computing.
  • India Joint Venture: To increase the company’s presence throughout Asia, a center for custom design, testing, and personalization will be established.
  • Space & Satellite Internet of Things: A $10 million investment to create a post-quantum, safe satellite communications solution.

In addition, it is negotiating Quobly, aiming to immediately incorporate post-quantum security into quantum microelectronics, and working with ColibriTD to maximize semiconductor wafer yields using quantum-enhanced solutions.

Addressing the Quantum Threat

The rapid development of quantum computers, which poses a threat to conventional encryption techniques like RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), is the driving force behind the urgency of the Quantum Highway. The necessity for quantum-resistant cryptography becomes crucial for both economic and national security as current conventional techniques grow more and more vulnerable.

SEALSQ has developed post-quantum semiconductors that are designed to protect vital systems in a wide range of sectors. Among them are:

  • Smart Energy and Automation in the Home.
  • Health & Medical Facilities.
  • Infrastructure for IT networks and defense.
  • EV and vehicle charging.
  • Industrial Control and Automation Systems.

Interestingly, the company’s collaboration with BWT Alpine Formula One further expands its reach into high-performance settings.

A Vision for Durable Infrastructure

The Quantum Highway’s long-term ambition is what makes it special. Although the underlying quantum technology will continue to advance quickly, SEALSQ maintains that the fundamental concepts of sovereignty, identity, and trust must hold true during decades of development.

In addition to enabling quantum computing, the business is creating a long-lasting trust infrastructure by securing these ideas in hardware and scaling them along the Quantum Highway. Governments, operators of vital infrastructure, and regulated industries that need safe, secure, and resilient solutions in a post-quantum world are the target audience for this infrastructure.

To provide a smooth transition to the future of digital infrastructure, quantum processors and hybrid systems will be “secured by design,” meaning they will be subject to the same identification and lifespan framework that safeguards SEALSQ’s present secure chips.
