The Superstaq Platform from Infleqtion Breaks Through Quantum Performance Barriers to Provide 10× Efficiency Gains

For a long time, the main challenge facing the constantly changing field of quantum computing has been the “time to value,” the interval between theoretical methods and useful, actual solutions. Infleqtion, a quantum technology leader, is decreasing that gap with Superstaq, its main software platform. Superstaq is showing speed gains of 10× or more on common benchmarks by fusing patented pulse-level optimizations with a “write once, target many” mentality, indicating a significant change in the way quantum software and hardware communicate.

The Link Between Qubits and Code

Superstaq is intended as a set of application libraries and a highly efficient compiler that expands the potential of various quantum devices. In the past, developers had to deal with a fragmented environment in which code created for one system might not work well or at all on another. Through a single, simplified interface, Infleqtion’s solution offers universal access to a vast diversity of devices.

For developers, the platform’s adaptability is a key selling factor. It supports the most widely used programming languages in the industry, such as OpenQASM, Cirq, and Qiskit. An OpenAPI enables teams to “build their own” interface to the Superstaq engine for those who want even more customization. With this method, researchers may concentrate on algorithmic reasoning instead of the peculiarities of certain hardware backends.

Pulse-Level Proprietary Optimization

Superstaq’s cross-layer optimization is what distinguishes it from conventional compilers. Instead of considering the hardware as a “black box,” the software optimizes at the most basic physical layer of quantum control, the pulse level.

Technical documentation states that the platform takes into account the distinct architecture, connectivity, and noise profiles of each chip while utilizing optimum decomposition to take use of its native functionalities. Next-generation error mitigation approaches, such dynamical decoupling, which shield quantum information from outside influence, provide this “hardware-aware” execution.

The sophisticated quantum logic that pushes the limits of existing technology is another example of the technical complexity. This covers methods such as fractional gates, approximation synthesis, and swap mirroring. Notably, Superstaq has been utilized to boost information density and processing capacity by employing three-level quantum systems (qutrits) to accomplish the first-ever 2-qutrit SWAP.

Proving Utility: The Supermarq Suite

Infleqtion incorporates Supermarq, an application-oriented benchmarking suite, straight into the platform to guarantee that these performance promises are based on fact. Rather than depending on ethereal measures, Supermarq gives developers quantifiable benchmarks to confirm how well a device performs on particular activities.

A comprehensive suite of Quantum Characterization, Verification, and Validation (QCVV) tools is also included in the platform. Real-time hardware health and reliability diagnosis is made possible by these pre-built experiments, which include Interleaved Randomized Benchmarking (IRB) and Cross Entropy Benchmarking (XEB).

Applications

The Applications team at Infleqtion is already using Superstaq to tackle challenging issues in a number of important industries:

  • National Security and Defense: Infleqtion, a project centered on “Secured AI for Positioning at the Edge, Navigation, and Timing,” recently took first place in the xTechProgram Scalable AI Competition for SAPIENT. Maintaining accurate location in situations where GPS is not available requires this technique.
  • Life Sciences and Oncology: Infleqtion is working with MIT and the University of Chicago through the Q4Bio competition to create ground-breaking cancer treatments with AI and quantum algorithms. The study intends to enhance multimodal cancer research and progress biomarker development.
  • Energy Grid Optimization: With the help of a $6.2 million ARPA-E award, the platform is being utilized to optimize energy grids, resulting in quicker and more intelligent decision-making that increases their resilience and sustainability.
  • Finance: Infleqtion is working with Morningstar to optimize financial portfolios using their “Q-CHOP” (Quantum Constrained Hamiltonian Optimization) approach, which gives the financial industry better insights and quicker execution.

A Full-Stack Ecosystem

Superstaq’s inclusion into the larger quantum environment of Infleqtion enhances its potency. Sqale, the business’s full-stack, fault-tolerant neutral atom quantum computer, is one example of this. Superstaq is specially tailored to optimize the potential of neutral atom technology, even though it works with a variety of backends, such as IBM’s superconducting systems and EeroQ’s Wonderlake.

NVIDIA’s CUDA-Q and NVQLink integration, which enables real-time communication between the Sqale quantum computer and AI supercomputers, is one of the recent breakthroughs. The industry is getting closer to the age of fault-tolerant quantum computing with this collaboration, which just produced the first application of quantum material design driven by logical qubits.

Towards the Future: The Five-Year Plan

The goal of Infleqtion’s recently released 5-year quantum computer strategy is the large-scale commercialization of quantum technologies. The ongoing development of Superstaq as a tool for “quantum readiness” is essential to this strategy.

Infleqtion provides customized application training for R&D executives to assist companies in assessing quantum potential in their own portfolios. From “problem framing” to “prototype implementation,” these engagements use Superstaq to estimate resources and pave the way for scalable quantum advantage.

Superstaq and other intelligent, hardware-aware software will play a critical role as quantum technology continues to advance. Infleqtion is making sure that the quantum revolution is a current utility rather than only a promise for the future by delivering verifiable, 10× performance outcomes now.
