SEALSQ and Parrot SA Lead the Way in Post-Quantum Cryptography for Future Drone Fleets: The Quantum Leap in Aerial Security

Parrot SA News

SEALSQ Corp (Nasdaq: LAES) and Parrot SA have announced a significant extension of their strategic alliance, a move that represents a paradigm change for the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sector. To protect these platforms from the growing threat of quantum computing, the partnership intends to include Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) in Parrot’s next generation of professional drones.

A Basis of Verified Security Superiority

The two European tech titans have been working together for many years, which provides the foundation for this growth. Parrot’s existing flagship drones, which are extensively used in the government, public safety, and defense sectors, already rely heavily on SEALSQ’s secure semiconductor technology.

The ANAFI UKR, a tactical micro-drone intended for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) in harsh situations, and the CHUCK 3.0, an advanced autopilot system that drives a variety of UAV platforms, are two current systems that benefit from this collaboration. SEALSQ’s NIST “FIPS” compliant and Common Criteria EAL5+ certified Secure Elements are used in these systems.

The “cybersecurity-by-design” methodology offered by SEALSQ’s current security architecture has established industry standards. This architecture’s salient characteristics are:

  • Device identity anchored in hardware and tamper-resistant key storage.
  • Secure boot integrity, guaranteeing that the drone can only execute firmware that has been digitally signed and verified.
  • A strong 512-bit key for SD card AES-XTS encryption.
  • A stringent privacy-first data policy, where sensitive data is only kept on secure sovereign servers and no data is exchanged without user agreement.

Switching to the Post-Quantum Era

As quantum computers develop, existing cryptography protocols like RSA and Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) are becoming increasingly susceptible, despite their current effectiveness. SEALSQ and Parrot are creating a Proof of Concept to integrate quantum-resistant technology to counter this.

The goal of this new stage of the collaboration is to guard against the “harvest now, decrypt later” threat. In these situations, enemies obtain encrypted material now, to decrypt it years hence when sufficiently powerful quantum computers are available. The partners hope to give important operational data future-proof security by integrating quantum-resistant security at the chip level.

Global Compliance and Regulatory Obligations

The switch to PQC is now required by law rather than an option. Systems handling national security data are already required to switch to quantum-resistant algorithms under the U.S. National Security Agency’s Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite 2.0 (CNSA 2.0).

Software and firmware compliance deadlines are already in place, and networking equipment deadlines are approaching. Adoption of NIST-standardized PQC algorithms, including CRYSTALS-Kyber for key encapsulation and CRYSTALS-Dilithium for digital signatures, is particularly required by CNSA 2.0. PQC compliance is increasingly becoming a need for any government drone purchase program as comparable rules appear in the European Union and NATO partners.

Market Trends and Strategic Goals

The global commercial drone market is expected to increase from $4 billion to over $40 billion, marking a turning point in the industry. The quick uptake of UAVs for industrial monitoring, infrastructure inspection, and military is driving this expansion.

The crucial aspect of this development was highlighted by Carlos Moreira, Chairman & CEO of SEALSQ: “Drones are becoming essential tools for governments and defense.” It is now necessary to be prepared for quantum technology.

Parrot’s CEO, Henri Seydoux, agreed, saying that the company can “get ahead of these requirements” and continue to provide the “trust and reliability that our most demanding customers expect” by entering the post-quantum space.

Concerning Partners

As the top professional micro-UAV organization in Europe, Parrot incorporates artificial intelligence into its flying systems to enable autonomous tracking and detection. The company made €80 million in sales in 2025, mostly from foreign markets. Pix4D, a pioneer in digital twin creation software and photogrammetry, is also owned by Parrot.

Integrating semiconductors, public key infrastructure (PKI), and provisioning services, SEALSQ is a leading innovator in post-quantum technology. Beyond aerospace, their PQC solutions are made for a variety of vital industries, such as smart energy, medical systems, and EV charging for cars.

By incorporating these cutting-edge safeguards now, SEALSQ and Parrot are guaranteeing that the drone fleets of the future will be able to withstand the most complex cyberattacks of the coming century.
